The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is a 2019 live-action/computer-animated adventure comedy film produced by Warner Animation Group, Lego System A/S, Rideback, Lord Miller Productions, and Vertigo Entertainment, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It was directed by Mike Mitchell from a screenplay by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The film is the sequel to The Lego Movie (2014) and the fourth installment in The Lego Movie franchise, while being the last film of the series produced and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film stars Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Charlie Day, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, and Will Ferrell reprising their roles from the previous film, while new cast members include Stephanie Beatriz, Tiffany Haddish, and Maya Rudolph. In addition to Pratt reprising his role, he also voiced a new character. A collaboration between production houses from the United States, Australia, and Denmark, the film takes place five years after the events of Taco Tuesday and follows Emmet Brickowski (Pratt), Lucy (Banks) and their friends, who travel into the Systar System to test their skills and creativity, while Emmet deals with a coming cataclysm known as "Armamageddon". Plans for a sequel to The Lego Movie began in February 2014 and were announced to be in the works, four days before the release of the first film. It was announced that the film would be directed by Chris McKay while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller remained as writers and producers in March 2014. The film has since undergone many changes, such as rewrites, directors, and release dates, with Mike Mitchell being later announced as the new director in February 2017. Production for the film began in October 2017, with the majority of the cast members returning to voice the characters in mid-2018, along with the new cast. As with all its previous installments in the franchise, the animation was provided by Animal Logic. To improve on-screen detail and depth-of-field, the production of the film took advantage of the latest update to its trace renderer Glimpse. Mark Mothersbaugh, who composed The Lego Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie, returned to compose the film's musical score, with artists such as Dillon Francis, Beck, Robyn and The Lonely Island performing new original songs for the film. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part premiered in Los Angeles on February 2, 2019, and was released in the United States on February 8, 2019. It received generally positive reviews. Despite grossing $199.6 million worldwide against a budget of $99 million, the film became the franchise's second box office disappointment after The Lego Ninjago Movie, which led Universal Pictures to acquired the film rights to the Lego brand in 2020, which was later set for a five-year deal. The first Lego film under Universal's tenure of the film rights, Piece by Piece, is set for release on October 11, 2024, while a new film in The Lego Movie franchise is in development.

Rex, why are we leaving? We gotta save my friends. Do we? They didn't come to save us when we were all alone. What are you talking about? Who are you? Look a little closer. We're not so different. What, you and I? - We and us. - Huh? Emmet, I'm you. But I'm me. I'm you from the future, all grown up. Wait, if you're me, why do we sound so different? Why do we sound so different?

It's a mind-blower, I know. That's why I was so cagey in telling you my backstory. Actually, you kept bringing it up. There I was, you. In that little house-ship, trying to make it through the Stairgate.

There was no handsome, older version of myself to save me. Where's Emmet? Honey, I'm on my way out the door, but the kids are fighting. Bye! Guys! Please, find a way to play together, or I'm gonna have to ask you to put it all into storage. - But, Mom... - No buts. This is the last time. Help! Anyone?

Hello? No one heard me. No one came for me. I was left behind. Forgotten. While the rest of my so-called friends danced and sang at the hands of a monster.

What could I have done to avoid such a fate? We also have to grow up sometime. Wyldstyle said you're not tough enough to do this. This guy was a fierce warrior? Yeah, dude, you're a total Hufflepuff.

I got myself a new vest, a new head of hair, and a petulant attitude towards everything that's lame. I gave myself a makeover and became Rex. Radical Emmet Xtreme. I was all grown up, but I still wasn't free.

I knew the only way to move past it was to make sure it never happened in the first place. It's a dance party! And then I saw a way to undo all the unbearable pain I'd experienced in one convoluted move... Called time travel. Sorry, Doc, gonna need your DeLorean. And, Bill, Ted, your phone booth. Doctor Who's TARDIS. H.G. Wells' bicycle thing. Whatever Skynet's been using. And this hot tub. I built a time-traveling spaceship and blasted into the past.

This time travel stuff's always kinda confusing. It's best just to go with it. You tricked me into hurting my friends? I didn't trick you. I taught you to harden your heart, just like you asked me to. What did you make me do? What exactly is Armamageddon? You stole my guys. This is your fault. What's going on up here? She took my guys and she ruined them. All right, all right! Armamageddon. Our-mama-gets-in? Okay. Really? Guys. I know I said it was the last time, the last time, and the time before that. But this is the last... Last time.
